Chaminade defeats UH-Hilo in volleyball

Kahala Kabalis recorded a match-high 20 kills to lead three teammates in double figures as Chaminade defeated Hawai'i-Hilo 30-28, 28-30, 30-23, 30-24 in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball opener last night.

A crowd of 200 at McCabe Gym watched the Silverswords improve to 6-2 overall. The Vulcans dropped to 3-7.

Chaminade hit .241 for the match and held the Vulcans to .188.

Chaminade's Valasi Sepulona had 15 kills followed by Patti Hardimon's 12 and Marijana Stanic's 10.

UH-Hilo was led by Shara Parker with 16 kills, Christina Cooley with 14 and Maite Ardies with 13.

Olympian Biondi to kick off benefit event

Three-time Olympian swimmer Matt Biondi, mixed martial arts world champion Robert Ferguson, and KGMB 9 sports anchor Liz Chun will kick off the LifeFest Kapalua Celebrity Power Walk on Sept. 25 at the Maui resort.

The 5-kilometer walk through Kapalua is sponsored by Meadow Gold Dairies and benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Hawai'i Division.

The Celebrity Power Walk will start and end at The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Beach House Lawn. Cost is $25 in advance, $30 on day of event and $10 for keiki 12 and under.
