MICHAEL J. VanDYKEN has joined COLDWELL BANKER PACIFIC PROPERTIES as chief financial officer. The certified public accountant is a 16-year veteran of a diversified financial management career, including commercial property management, manufacturing, distribution, retail and government. He will oversee Coldwell Banker systems, activities, staffing and accounting department reporting. He also will be responsible for facilities management and purchasing, and work with budgeting, strategic planning and development. He was most recently regional controller for MMI Realty Services Inc.

• Former Salvation Army executive BRIAN ROBERT KLASCHKA has joined Maui social services center, J. Walter Cameron Center, as new chief of operations. He will oversee property maintenance, and coordination of outside firm contracts. Klaschka is the former business administrator and chief of operations and development for The Salvation Army, and before that, chief executive officer with Imua Rehab. He is a 20-year nonprofit group veteran board member, consultant or head executive. Wailuku's J. Walter Cameron Center houses and supports Maui nonprofit health and social-services agencies, including American cancer, heart and lung associations; Mediation Services of Maui Inc.; Mental Health Association; ARC of Maui; and Easter Seals.

• Thirty-five year Hawaiian Electric Co. veteran Chris Shirai has been named to a new HECO position, vice president of special projects, overseeing technology improvements to efficiency and company response during power outages. These will include state-of-the-art energy and outage management systems and automated mapping. He is experienced in several company arenas, including planning, engineering, process improvement and operations.

Replacing Shirai will be Harold Kageura, new vice president of energy delivery. He is former manager of the Construction and Maintenance Department, which is responsible for O'ahu's network of power lines and cables and related facilities. Prior to that, he managed HECO's power plant operations and maintenance.

• Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau named KARA IMAI to oversee planning, directing and managing of HVCB's electronic marketing communications and promotional efforts for consumers, travel trade and members, as well as a new Web site. Prior to joining HVCB, she operated Slingshot Communications as consultant on e-business and interactive marketing projects. Clients included Ala Moana Center and Prince Resorts Hawaii.

First Hawaiian Bank has announced three officer promotions, and one appointment:

DEAN M. MURAKAMI, promoted from assistant vice president to vice president, Trust Institutional Client Relations.

VIVIAN K. ADAMS, promoted to assistant vice president, Human Resources Division. Since 1982, Adams has held positions as teller, teller trainer, head teller, assistant operations supervisor, operations supervisor, service manager and human resources officer.

TAMI-K M. SENYUVA, promoted to assistant vice president, Home Banking Department. She joined the bank in 1997 as marketing specialist and was promoted to Internet banking officer in 2000.

RUSSELL S.L. CHING has been named a trust real-estate officer, Trust Real Estate Service.

SARAH VAUGHN has been named to the newly developed position as director of communications for St. Andrew's Priory School For Girls. Vaughn, who holds master's degrees in education and in writing and publishing, will oversee marketing and advertising for the school, as well as directing the school's public relations programs. She was previously editorial director for marketing and public-relations firm, The Limtiaco Co., and a marketing manager in the high-tech industry.

ERNEST H. FUKEDA JR., of Hawaiian Insurance and Guaranty Co., has been elected chairman of the HAWAIIAN HUMANE SOCIETY board of directors. Other newly elected officers include vice chairman, NICHOLAS C. DREHER, of Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright; treasurer, JAMES P. HASSELMAN, of PriceWaterhouse Coopers; and secretary, SHARON SHIROMA BROWN, of First Hawaiian Bank.

Newly elected board members include CHRISTINA DOANE, marketing manager, TheoDavies Food Service Group; NORMAN M. NOGUCHI, president and chief operating officer of Marcus & Associates Inc., and MARY H. WEYAND, president of Malia International.

Members re-elected to a three-year term are JAMES P. HASSELMAN; PAULINE M. OSBORNE, of The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific; KURT H. MITCHELL, of Kober, Hanssen & Mitchell Architects; and LAWRENCE D. RODRIGUES of Ernst & Young.

Other members include Humane Society president and chief executive officer, PAMELA BURNS; GERRI CADIZ of 'Ilio magazine; THOMAS J. KOIDE, of Bank of Hawaii; JEAN C. MARCHANT; GARY T. OKAMOTO of Wilson Okamoto Corp.; and MARK POLIVKA of Monarch Insurance Services.

KAREN HUFFMAN has been named founding president of the new Hawaii Theatre Stars fund-raising support group. Huffman, a member of the historic venue's board of directors and former McDonald's franchisee, has worked with numerous nonprofit organizations, and was formerly board president for Hawai'i's Ronald McDonald House. She is a recipient of the Small Business Hawaii "Small Business Person of the Year" award.

Other founding officers are vice president, JEFFRIE JONES, Straub Clinic and Hospital director of development; treasurer, BARBARA WONG, former Junior League of Honolulu president and current president of the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists, Honolulu chapter; corresponding secretary, IRIS IWANA, First Hawaiian Bank business banking officer; and recording secretary, MELE POCHEREVA, public-relations firm owner.

• American Savings Bank has promoted ALISON MACHIDA HUMPHRIES from Community Reinvestment Act program specialist to corporate giving and sponsorships coordinator. Before joining the bank, Humphries worked with the Foodland Super Market Ltd. Give Aloha corporate giving program, and served as executive assistant to the executive team.
