MVT acquires caterer with star quality

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Kate Wagner, the new caterer at Manoa Valley Theatre, has prepared kitchen delights for the Hollywood and show-biz crowd — Madonna, Eminem, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Martin Scorcese and Cher, among others. She also has been the executive chef on the Grant family yacht; this is the Scots family that distills Glenfiddich, Glen Grant and Glenfarclas whiskeys. Now Honolulans can sample her culinary artistry in the pre-curtain meals during the run of "My Way," the revue of Frank Sinatra tunes (the show has been extended Friday through Sunday). Ol' Blue Eyes, who loved his liquor, might have enjoyed the whiskey connection. Wagner will do the meals throughout MVT's new season. ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Robert Cazimero dons a tux and joins Aaron Sala and Les Ceballos in "Three Tenors of Hawai'i" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Hawai'i Theatre. This is the Alliance Awards show, which acknowledges graphics designer Clarence Lee as the Alfred Preis honoree in the annual "Celebrate the Arts" presentation of the Hawai'i Alliance for Arts Education. TUBE NOTES: Gordie Berry, the maitre d' at Indigo restaurant who also sells real estate, has added acting to his dossier. For The WB's "Rocky Point," the John Stockwell TV pilot, Berry is typecast as a maitre d' with a slight attitude. "Although this will be a stretch, I think I can handle the part," he said. Berry has greeted NBC's "Hawaii" cast members and shared Indigo delights with pal Michael Ontkean and his family; Ontkean is on Fox's "North Shore." ...

Tani Lynn Fujimoto appears as a teenage prostitute in this week's "Hawaii" — called "Lost and Found" — on NBC. Kai Patterson, a fourth-grader at Haha'ione Elementary, is on the same show, so dad David has been e-mailing friends and family to tune in. ...

Newsweek's No. 1 best-of new shows? ABC's Hawai'i-filmed "Lost." No. 5 on the worst-of new shows? NBC's "Hawaii." ...

"The June Jones Show," a sports fixture on Oceanic 16, takes to the road shortly. Coach Jones tapes two segments — from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and again Oct. 30 — from the Waikoloa King's Grill at Waikoloa on the Big Island. Dale Payson, formerly of BOB-FM, is back from Southern California for an upcoming "'Ohana Road," the automotive program also featuring Bill Maloney and Anita Hall and airing at 6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 p.m. Sundays on KITV-4. As part of "Camp Jeep California," Payson drove a Jeep on off-road courses. ...

SCENE 'N' HEARD: Marine artist Christian Lassen opened up his Diamond Head spread for "Hawaii" production coordinator Angela Laprete's 40th birthday recently. Attendees included actors Aya Sumika, Sharif Atkins and Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, co-exec producer Jeff Reiner, co-producer Francis Conway and costume designer Kelli Jones. A contingent from Fox's "North Shore" also partied: Brooke Burns, Jason Momoa, designer Takeo, producer Frank South, plus such locals as Dr. Alvin Chung, the dentist; Matty Liu, scenester and actor; and publicists Mona Wood and Kristin Jackson. ...

People reporter Oliver Jones interviewed "Hawaii" cast member Tuiasosopo at Tiki's Grill 'N Bar at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. Jones earlier connected with "North Shore" guest actress Shannen Doherty. Jones is the godson of John Hillerman, the "Magnum P.I." actor, who was a good friend of his father. ...

BOOK 'EM: Butch Helemano, a founder of Island reggae and a veteran on the music scene, has turned author with the publication of "The Adventures of Popo the Hawaiian Dog," the first of a trilogy he envisions. The launching story is titled "The Lost Surfboard," and Helemano will appear at a book-signing from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Borders Express (formerly Waldenbooks) Pearlridge. ...
