Suspect allegedly threatens officers

A man police were attempting to arrest in Kaimuki Sunday night for a misdemeanor offense now faces a charge of first-degree terroristic threatening, a felony.

Police said the 46-year-old suspect picked up a large metal pipe, rushed toward the officers and threatened to hit them.

The man was persuaded to put the pipe down and was arrested without further incident.



Charges filed over drug-filled stereo

A Honolulu woman has been charged in federal court with trying to possess about three pounds of methamphetamine found hidden in a stereo system in a package shipped here last week from Oakland.

Jacqueline Silveyra admitted that she had been paid $1,000 to receive the package and that she knew it contained illegal drugs, according to a police affidavit filed in support of the charges.

Silveyra was arrested after she arrived at the Airborne Express office to pick up the package, the affidavit said.



Nanakuli fire burns 10 acres

A brushfire scorched 10 acres in Nanakuli yesterday before firefighters got it under control at about 4:39 p.m.

The fire was reported near the 87-1200 block of Hakimo Road at 3:59 p.m. Firefighters declared the blaze under control 40 minutes later.



Big Island crews fight brushfire

Big Island firefighters battled a brushfire on the Hamakua Coast yesterday near the junction of Hawai'i Belt Road and Honoka'a-Waipi'o Road.

Big Island Civil Defense officials warned motorists yesterday afternoon of possible traffic delays and detours.
