Arrest made in stolen-check case

A 19-year-old woman was arrested last night for allegedly trying to cash a stolen check at a store on Atkinson Drive.

Police said the woman was attempting to cash an out-of-state personal check at about 7:55 p.m. when a store clerk learned the check had been stolen earlier in the day during a car break-in.

Police were called and the woman was arrested on suspicion of second-degree forgery.

The check was stolen from a tourist who is in Hawai'i visiting a family member and who does not know the woman who tried to cash the check, police said.


Pair arrested in car-theft case

A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of auto theft in Wahiawa last night after a police officer stopped the car the two were in to check on possible fraudulent license plates.

The officer found that a 70-year-old woman had reported the car stolen. A 24-year-old man who had been driving the car when it was stopped on Kukui Street was arrested.

The passenger in the car, a 26-year-old woman, was arrested after she told the officer that she drove the car earlier and had stopped to pick up the man.


Suspected van thief arrested

A 34-year-old man was arrested in Kaka'ako yesterday afternoon on suspicion of driving a stolen van after an employee of the van owner called police to report that he was following the van.

Police dispatch workers contacted downtown patrol officers, who caught up with the van and the witness who alerted police, at about 3:15 p.m. on Keawe Street.

The suspected van thief was identified by the witness and arrested.
