Police seeking 2 suspects in separate Waikiki taxi robberies

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are asking for the public's help in finding two suspects whom they believe are responsible for three recent taxi driver robberies.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday, a taxi driver picked up a passenger at Kuhio and Ohua avenues and was directed to 2211 Ala Wai Boulevard.

En route, the passenger brandished a box-cutter knife and demanded money. The man then got out of the cab and ran with a limp in the 'ewa direction on Ala Wai Boulevard.

At about 1 a.m. the next day, another taxi driver picked up a passenger at Kalakaua Avenue and Beach Walk. The passenger appeared to have a limp.

The driver was directed to Monsarrat and Kalakaua avenues. On the way, the passenger pulled out a box-cutter knife and demanded money. The man cut the driver's right index finger when he grabbed money from the driver before getting out of the cab and running away.

Robbery detective Derrick Kiyotoki requested that anyone with information about these cases phone him at 529-3436.

The limping robber is described as about 5 feet 7, 140 to 160 pounds, with black neck-length hair, brown eyes and brown complexion.

Police also are seeking the public's help in finding a teenager who robbed a taxi driver on Aug. 15.

They say that driver picked up five teenage boys at about 10:30 p.m. from the Waikiki Jack in the Box restaurant on Kuhio Avenue.

When the cab arrived at 1238 Richard Lane, one of the boys took out a knife and demanded money. A struggle ensued, and the driver was stabbed in the leg and hand.

The boys ran off across a footbridge toward Gulick Avenue.

Detective Taro Nakamura asked that anyone with information about this case contact him at 529-3436.

The boy sought by police is believed to be about 5 feet 2 or shorter, about 140 pounds, with a thin build and dark brown complexion.
