Sidewalk cyclist arrested

A 25-year-old man who refused a police officer's instructions to stop riding his bicycle on a Waikiki sidewalk last night now faces multiple criminal charges including first-degree assault of a police officer.

The officer was standing on a sidewalk at the corner of Seaside and Kalakaua avenues at about 9:40 p.m. when he saw the man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk.

The officer said he asked the man to stop riding the bicycle and instead, the cyclist swore at him and rode on. The officer tried to stop the man, but his hand got caught in the bike rider's backpack and the officer was dragged about 40 feet.

Other police officers saw what was happening and came to the aid of the first officer, finally managing to stop the bicyclist.

The woman bought a drink at the bar at about 12:30 a.m. and paid for it with a $20 bill, police said. About 20 minutes later, the woman ordered a second drink and again paid for it with another $20 bill.
