Murder suspect ordered to leave victim's relative alone

SAN JOSE, Calif. A judge yesterday ordered a man accused of killing a 7-year-old former Hawai'i girl to stop communicating with the child's great-aunt.
Stephanie Kahalekulu said she received a two-page letter last week along with 15 pages of police reports from Anderson.
"The letter's taunting," prosecutor Charles Constantinides said. "And it's obviously an attempt to dissuade Ms. Kahalekulu from testifying in the case."
Kahalekulu, who helped raise Xiana, said Anderson insulted her and questioned her Christian beliefs after reminding her of her past quotes to the media about how she believed he deserved the death penalty for his crimes.
"It goes to show how sick he is," Kahalekulu said outside court, adding she suffered several days of migraines from the stress.
Also yesterday, the Santa Clara County judge postponed Anderson's plea hearing for a second time to give his public defender more time to prepare. The hearing was rescheduled for Oct. 14.

After Anderson was arrested in 2000 on charges he kidnapped another girl, he boasted that he killed Xiana. He told a reporter he drugged Xiana, then put her body in a bag and tossed it down an embankment, investigators said. But they couldn't corroborate his stories until recently.
Before the girl's body was found, Anderson tried to extort payments from Kahalekulu, in exchange for guaranteeing her safety, investigators said.
Anderson is serving 251 years for the kidnapping and molestation of another little girl from Vallejo who eventually escaped.
Curtis Dean Anderson, 43, faces charges of murder, kidnapping and molestation in the 1999 disappearance and death of Xiana Fairchild.

Xiana disappeared on her way to school in December 1999 and her fate remained a mystery until her skull was discovered more than a year later.
Stephanie Kahalekulu, great-aunt of murder victim Xiana Fairchild, received a taunting letter from the man accused of killing Xiana.
