Kupuna honored for contributions
Four Hawaiian kupuna were recently honored by the Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club for their lifelong contributions to the Hawaiian community.
They are Kenneth Brown, architect, businessman and philanthropist, who also received the AIA Hawai'i State Council Medal of Honor; Kina'u Boyd Kamali'i, native Hawaiian advocate, community visionary and former public official; retired Vice Adm. Robert Kihune, who in recent years has devoted himself to helping Hawaiian youth achieve their goals; and Mary "Mele" Peters, businesswoman and Hawaiian cultural resource.
University of Hawai'i-Manoa Chancellor Peter Englert has been elected to a four-year term on the administrative board of the International Association of Universities.
The IAU board is made up of 20 leaders in higher education from around the globe. Englert is one of two representatives from the United States.
"The University of Hawai'i's presence and role in the Asia Pacific region and its position among U.S. research universities will be a huge asset to the IAU in its activities over the next several years," IAU president and United Nations University Rector Hans Van Ginkel said.
