Kane'ohe resident in tennis semifinals

Kane'ohe's John Greer yesterday advanced to the semifinals in wheelchair tennis at the Paralympic Games at Athens, Greece.
Greer beat Austria's Martin Legner, 6-2, 6-3, and will face Robin Ammerlaan of the Netherlands in the semifinals.
"In Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000) I won the silver medal. Now I want the gold," Greer said.
In the doubles event, Greer and Steve Welch lost in the quarterfinals to Australia's Anthony Bonaccurso and David Hall, 6-4, 6-3.
Ala Moana will host events on Tuesdays
Hawai'i's Wheelchair Tennis Program is held every Tuesday at Ala Moana's Court 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
All ages and abilities are invited.
The program is free, with rackets and balls provided through a U.S. Tennis Association grant. The group is also working to obtain tennis-specific chairs.
Paralympian John Greer, of Kane'ohe, helps coach the class when he is home. Ron Casados, USTA/ Hawai'i Pacific Section's Director of Recreational Tennis, is the full-time instructor.
The Hawai'i program was originally started by Peter Burwash International.

Youth races monthly on Big Island
The Hawai'i Racing Association is promoting a monthly motocross and all-terrain vehicle racing series for youths at the Parker Ranch rodeo arena at Waimea on the Big Island.
The year-long "Keiki MX Series" is scheduled for Sept. 26, Oct. 17, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 16, Feb. 20, March 20, April 17, May 22, June 19, July 17, Aug. 21.
The series is a fund-raiser for the proposed Kona Motorsport Park project.
