MauiFest kicks off today at Hotel Hana

MauiFest Hawai'i is a celebration of music, arts, culture and film at the Hotel Hana from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today (gates open at 2 p.m.). It boasts a stellar lineup of entertainment, food and films.
The entertainment schedule, after a blessing and chant:
• 2:35 p.m.: Frank DeLima. • 3:15 p.m.: Keola Beamer. • 3:55 p.m.: Brother Noland. • 4:40 p.m.: Tuck & Patti. • 5:25 p.m.: The Makaha Sons Miss Aloha Hula 2003 and 2004 also will perform.
Films begin at sunset, after a chant:
• 6:36 p.m.: "Wa'a Ho'olaulea Festival of Canoes." • 7:10 p.m.: "What the Universe Tells Me: Unraveling the Mysteries of Mahler's Third Symphony." • 8:15 p.m.: "Mauna Kea: Temple Under Siege." Tickets are $15 general, $10 for Hana residents, free for kids under 10. (808) 248-8211.
The celebration is scheduled to move to a neighboring island Oct. 9, from 4 p.m. at Maunaloa Town's Concert Park on Molo-ka'i.
There'll be food booths, arts and crafts and entertainment by Brother Noland, slack-key guitar master Don Kaulia and Uncle "Boy" Kana'e.
Films include "Wa'a Ho'olaule'a," "Fiji Firewalkers" and "The Ride," the fictionalized tale of young surfer who goes back in time and meets Duke Kahanamoku in long-ago Waikiki.
Admission is $5 (a donation to the Moloka'i canoe clubs); free for kids younger than 12.
