Maui Arts & Cultural Center holds a series of meeting for artists wishing to submit works for the Schaefer International Gallery's Portrait Challenge 2006. The Art Society of Hawaii calls for works for the juried exhibition "Kuilima Kakou," commemorating the 150-year anniversary of Japan and U.S. relations, scheduled to open Oct. 18. Two-dimensional works must be framed and measure no more than 45 by 45 inches; 3-D works no larger that 3 by 3 by 5 feet and must be presented for consideration, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Blaisdell Center's Pikaki room. $20 fee for each entry. 942-3443, 533-2044.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center seeks proposals for exhibitions in the Schaefer International Gallery for the May 2006-June 2007 season.
