SOCCER

Rainbow Wahine capture fourth in row

Forwards Krisha Kai, Natasha Kai and Koren Takeyama each scored a goal as the University of Hawai'i defeated Gonzaga, 3-0, yesterday in the Montana Fall Classic at Missoula, Mont.

The Rainbow Wahine (7-2-1) won their fourth match in a row while snapping Gonzaga's (7-3) four-match winning streak.

Hawai'i closes its road trip against Brigham Young today.

Rainbow Wahine goalkeeper Mahie Atay had three saves in 86 minutes for her second straight shutout.

Hawai'i had difficulty penetrating the Bulldog defense in the first half and didn't get off a shot until the 34th minute. That, however, would lead to the first goal less than a minute later.

Natasha Kai sent a header to Takeyama at the top of the box. Takeyama's shot attempt bounced to the left foot of

Krisha Kai, who shot from 18 yards. The ball bounced off the left post and slid across the goal line before resting in the right side of the net for the sophomore's first goal of the season.

The Rainbow Wahine scored twice in the second half, the first off a Natasha Kai header from 10 yards in the 67th minute and the second from a Takeyama flick in the front of the goal. Both goals came off crosses by senior midfielder Joelle Sugai.
