Man allegedly drove stolen car
Car theft charges are pending against a man who was seen by a police detective climbing over the balcony of a Pearl Ridge apartment yesterday afternoon.
The detective was watching the exterior of the building on Koauka Loop when he saw the man climb down from the building and approach the car directly in front of the car the detective was sitting in.
Police said the man ran back toward the building after making eye contact with the detective, who checked on the license number of the car in front of him and found it had been reported stolen. The detective called for other officers to help him, believing the man may also have burglarized the apartment he was seen leaving.
Police later determined the apartment belonged to the man's friend and had not been burglarized. But while he was being questioned, the man, 36, confessed to driving the stolen car, police said.
