Today's Must-See
"The 101 Most Unforgettable Moments on Saturday Night Live" conclusion, 6 p.m., cable channel E. Wrapping up a five-hour series, this episode shows the top 20 moments. The previous ones (Nos. 21 to 40) will be rerun at 5 p.m.
"Reno 911" and "South Park," 6 and 6:30 p.m., Comedy Central. Two of cable's best comedies are rerun here for the benefit of debate avoiders. The first has the cops facing Halloween trouble; the second has a family with quintuplets moving to South Park.
"Matchstick Men" (2003), 6 p.m., HBO. Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell play clever con men, with Alison Lohman as the teen who changes everything. It's a clever story, even if the final twist does seem stretched. "Joey," 7 p.m., NBC. Remember on "Seinfeld" when George joined a book club then realized that he doesn't like to read books? Here's a variation: Joey and his nephew Michael join a book club to meet women. Alas, Joey doesn't want to read "Pride and Prejudice" and Michael doesn't want his uncle to have all the female attention. Meanwhile, Gina (Joey's sister, Michael's mom) wants the neighbor lady to help her become a hairdresser to the stars. "Survivor: Vanuatu," 7 p.m., CBS. It's time for a third person to be evicted. Think of it as democracy on the smallest (and loudest) scale. "Extreme Makeover," 7 p.m., ABC. One segment has a young mother losing her acne scars. Another has a would-be rock star getting drastic changes to his face. "Will & Grace," 7:30 p.m., NBC. Grace goes to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting to find some free food. Instead, she finds the disturbing Val (Molly Shannon). Meanwhile, Jack has some ideas for a gay cable network.
Presidential debate, 3 p.m., NBC, Fox, and cable news channels; 9 p.m., PBS. The campaign has wandered away from the issues, as campaigns tend to do. Now the debates bring a chance to refocus. Here are two men who disagree on virtually everything, from Iraq to healthcare and from minimum wage to taxation. Tonight, they debate at the University of Miami. We'll list alternatives, for those who simply don't do debates. Still, this is worth catching; all that's at stake is the future of the United States and the war.
