Advertiser Staff
O'ahu's theater scene continues in high gear as several new productions hit the stage in the next week.
Here's a look:
'Guys and Dolls'
The evergreen musical romance/comedy about 1940s New York City gamblers is directed by Karen Meyer, with choreography by Marcelo Pacleb. It's the tale of Nathan Detroit and his rival Sky Masterson, and their love lives.
Showtimes are 8 p.m. Saturday and April 8, 15 and 16; and 2 p.m. Sunday and April 10 and 17 at the Ronald E. Bright Theatre, at Castle High School in Kane'ohe. Tickets are $15 general, $10 seniors and students; group rates available. 233-5626.
'On The Spot: Lock, Stock and Six Smoking Improvisers'
The improv group On The Spot returns with a British-gangster theme, inspired by the films of Guy Ritchie ("Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"). Expect "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" comedy and even improbable accents, a la Ritchie. Each show will be different, based on suggestions from the audience.
Showtimes are 10 p.m. today and 8 p.m. Saturday at The ARTS at Marks Garage. Tickets are $10 general, $7 students, available an hour before each show. 531-3113.
'Godspell'
Jesus is a lifeguard, and his disciples are surfers, skateboarders, beach boys, the homeless and tourists in this Hawai'i-style version of the musical, presented by the Performing Arts Program of Chaminade University. Gary E. Morris directs a cast of Chaminade students, other students and members of the theater community.
Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through April 9, and at 4 p.m. April 10 at Mamiya Theatre. Tickets are $10 general, $5 seniors, students and children. 440-4246.
'University'
College life from freshman year to graduation day comes to life in this all-student production directed by Paul Cravath. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday through April 9 and April 14-16, at the Leeward Community College Lab Theatre. Tickets are $5. 455-0549.
