Man held in sexual assault case
Advertiser Staff
A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the March 12 sexual assault of an 85-year-old Kaimuki woman.
Fujii declined to say what led to the arrest. He did say Baldaino is not a suspect in any other sexual assaults, including an assault of another woman in Kaimuki and two assaults in Manoa.
In the March 12 case, the woman told police she was sleeping at about 3 a.m. when a stranger got into her apartment on Old Wai'alae Road, pulled a knife on her and sexually assaulted her. Police would not say how the man gained entry into the apartment.
The assault was one of two within a week's time in which the victim was 70 or older and lived in Kaimuki.
In the second attack, a 72-year-old woman told police that an unknown man entered her apartment, pulled a knife and began to sexually assault her.
No arrests have been made in that case. Police did not release street addresses where the attacks occurred, citing concerns for victims' safety.
David Michael Baldaino, who has not been charged, has two prior felony convictions for sexual assault and burglary, police said. He was arrested at about 8:25 a.m. yesterday in the Punahou area, said Honolulu Police Department Capt. Frank Fujii.
