Meetings set to discuss Kaua'i vacation rental home issues

Advertiser Staff

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — A vacation rental home in a residential district is a commercial and residential use, and Kaua'i residents are trying to determine whether this newly popular concept requires special regulation.

A series of three meetings — the first from 1 to 7 p.m. April 8 at the county's Mo'ikeha Building meeting rooms — will bring together the mayor, county council members, county planners and consultants, Realtors, residents, and members of the state Judiciary's Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution.

"This issue is the commercialization of single-family dwelling units in residential districts and the impacts of that," said Barbara Robeson, a community activist and former head of the Kaua'i Planning Commission.

Additional meetings will be announced later.
