Akamine spurs rally as Buffanblu remain undefeated, 51-49

Megan Akamine scored 17 points and hit key free throws late in the game as Punahou rallied past St. Andrew's, 51-49, last night in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II basketball game at the Priory gym.
Arielle Daniels added 12 points for the Buffanblu (2-0), who overcame a 28-16 halftime deficit.
Caasi Nakasone scored 18 points and Holly Saito 14 for the defending champion Pride.

Humboldt State, ranked fifth in the national Division II poll, banged out 14 hits in each game to sweep Chaminade, 5-0 and 17-3, yesterday in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Turlock, Calif.
Brandi Harrison had two hits and two RBIs and Lizzy Prescott and Kara Roberts teamed on a two-hitter in the opener.
Carolyn Cameron batted 4 for 4 and Brandi Harrison hit a grand slam as the Lumberjacks (33-1) extended their winning streak to 21 in taking the second game.
Tara Hiramatsu, Kehaulani Yamaguchi and Loihi McKeague each had two hits for the Silverswords (8-23), with McKeague adding two RBIs.
Chaminade will join fellow Pacific West Conference members Hawai'i Pacific, Hawai'i-Hilo, Brigham Young-Hawai'i, Montana State-Billings and Western New Mexico in the three-day, 19-team Easton Tournament of Champions at Modesto, Calif., starting today.
Ticket giveaway at UH
The first 100 youth league softball players (13 and younger) wearing team jerseys to this weekend's games between host Hawai'i and No. 18 Fresno State will receive a ticket to one of the UH baseball games against Rice on April 15 to 17.
The youth softball players will also receive a free candy bar.
Tonight's game starts at 6 at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Tomorrow's doubleheader starts at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Fresno State is the defending Western Athletic Conference champion.
Stewart triumphs
Mike Stewart won the Quiksilver Ke Kaha Nalu Hanana O Ehukai bodysurfing contest on Wednesday at the Banzai Pipeline.
Kai Santos was second, followed by Steve Kapela, Pete Johnson, Kenny Rust, Dave Wassel and Chris Moore.
