POLICE BEAT
Seat adjustment leads to weapons arrest

Advertiser Staff

A 61-year-old man was arrested in 'Ewa Beach early yesterday morning for suspicion of a firearms offense after he got into an argument with his girlfriend.

Police said they arrived about 12:40 a.m. at a home in response to an argument call and were told by a woman at the home that she had been arguing with her boyfriend, who left before police arrived.

The boyfriend returned to the home while police were still there and gave the girlfriend permission to leave in his car. When the girlfriend failed to drive away after several minutes, police went to check on her.

She told the officers the seat in her boyfriend's car was too far away for her to reach the pedals, and that she was unsure how to adjust the seat.

One of the police officers went to the car to try to help the woman adjust the seat, and while looking for the adjustment lever, found a revolver on the floor in front of the driver's seat.

Police determined the gun had been placed in the car by the woman's boyfriend and he was arrested for suspicion of failing to properly store a firearm.

No suspects were found and police classified the incident as a case of second-degree criminal property damage.

Park fight leads to arrest

Police yesterday arrested a 17-year-old Waimanalo boy in connection with a Jan. 28 attack upon a 15-year-old Kailua boy that left the victim with a bloody nose, cut bottom lip and concussion.

Police said the younger boy was sitting at a picnic table at Pohakupu Park talking with friends when the other boy, with whom he is acquainted, stood in front of him and punched him for no apparent reason.

They said the older boy continued the assault even after the victim fell back, but finally left the area.

Police located the suspect yesterday and arrested him for suspicion of second-degree assault.
