Tonight on KHNL News 8 The stars do it, so why can't you? Tonight on KHNL News 8 first at 5, find out how you can wear million dollar Bling Bling and not pay a thing. It's tonights News 8 Extra. |
"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox, and "Nashville Star," 10 p.m., USA Network. The good news is that "Idol" is overloaded with talent. With nine contestants, there isn't a weak one left to pick on. The mixed news is at "Star." Last week, Tamika Tyler, with a great voice and no charisma, was ousted. Jenny Farrell, who's exactly the opposite, persists. Also last week, the original-songs portion was a relative disappointment. Most of the songs were so-so and two performances (by Jody Evans and Justin David) were bland. The night was saved, surprisingly, by the youngest contestant. Erika Jo Heriges who has been performing for 16 of her 18 years and touring for 13 of them gave a high-octane performance of her "He Don't Care," saving the show. Now comes a fresh week for her and the other contestants. Buddy Jewell, the show's first champion, also will perform. It will be a quiet reminder that winning "Star" pays off.
Of Note
"The Adventures of Errol Flynn," 2, 5:30 p.m., Turner Classic Movies. Errol Flynn fit neatly into action-movie roles. Born in Tasmania, ousted from schools in England, he lived a knock-about life before turning to acting in the 1930s. Before his death at 50, he would be known for statutory rape trials, alcohol and swashbuckling movies. Here's a profile.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter," 6 p.m., A&E. As this reality show opens its second season, Dog uses his daughter to trick a fugitive.
"My Wife and Kids," 7 p.m., ABC. Michael's poker pals aren't happy when his wife sits in.
"Knievel's Wild Ride" debut,7 p.m., A&E. In the opener of this reality show, Robbie Knievel, son of the daredevil Evel Knievel, and his unruly band start a cross-country tour.
"The Shield," 7 p.m., FX. A serial rapist escapes from the courthouse and attacks again.
"The Office," 8:30 p.m., NBC. Michael is supposed to find a cheaper healthcare plan. He passes the job to his assistant Dwight (played by the delightful Rainn Wilson, formerly of "Six Feet Under"), who bloats with power.
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. This rerun is well-acted, with an adviser accused of raping his grad student.
