11 UH athletes earn academic honors

Eleven University of Hawai'i athletes received Western Athletic Conference All-Academic honors yesterday.
Trisha Nishimoto, Milia Macfarlane, Amber Lee, Brittany Grice and Jade Abele made the list for women's basketball while men's basketball player Bobby Nash was also honored.
Katie Clewett, Yan Chen, Miranda Maas, Stephanie Regucera and Mia Broden qualified from the swimming and diving team.
Nishimoto, an education major, had the highest GPA from UH with 3.66.
HPU drops two
Cal State Los Angeles swept visiting Hawai'i Pacific, 10-7 and 7-5, yesterday in a non-conference doubleheader.
Rene Gonzalez and Jacob Ferris homered to help Cal State L.A. improve to 10-15.
Spencer Omalza homered in each game for the Sea Warriors (20-14).
Pacific beats Hilo
Adam Ching had four hits and Justin Baum added four RBIs as host Pacific beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 11-5, yesterday in a non-conference game at Stockton, Calif.
Pacific improved to 15-16.
Sean Tamura hit an RBI single for Hilo (2-31).
Warriors tie for eighth
The University of Hawai'i men's golf team shot a final-round 18-over 306 yesterday to finish tied for eighth in the 21-school Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate tournament at Lompoc, Calif.
UH finished at 900. UC Davis won with 879.
Junior Jarett Hamamoto led the Warriors with 74222 to tie for 14th. Louie Bishop of UC Davis shot a final-round 3-under 69 to win medalist honors with a 1-over 217 total.
Chaminade loses pair
Montana State-Billings swept Chaminade, 7-0 and 5-0, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at Billings, Mont.
Joey Ehnes pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in the first game and a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the second for the Yellowjackets (22-10, 5-3 PacWest).
Heidi Garcia had two hits in the second game for the Silverswords (9-27, 2-8).
UH women in tourney
The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team will compete in UC Santa Barbara's annual exhibition Spring Tournament Saturday at Santa Barbara, Calif.
The seven-team tournament will feature Hawai'i, host Santa Barbara, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly, UC Irvine, Long Beach State and Pepperdine. All matches will be played at UCSB's Thunderdome.
