Tonight's Must-See
"Tru Calling," 8 p.m., Fox. It's good to see this intriguing fantasy back on the schedule, even when it doesn't have one of its better episodes. "Tru Calling" centers on Tru (Eliza Dushku), a morgue worker and med student with a supernatural sense: The newly deceased ask for her help, then she bounces to the previous morning and tries to save them. By now, a few people know about this. One is the mysterious Jack (Jason Priestley), who may be helping or hindering her. Tonight, there's a new problem: Tru hears a voice, but doesn't know where it's from; she's not sure who to save. The main story is a disappointment. At the end, however, we learn a surprise about one of the characters. Even on a so-so week, "Tru" holds our attention. "Funeral services for Pope John Paul II," live coverage from the Vatican begins locally at 9:30 p.m. on KITV, 10 p.m. on KHON, KHNL and KGMB. Cable news channel coverage may begin earlier. "The O.C.," 7 p.m., Fox. The next glittery charity event is an upscale lawn sale. On "O.C.," that means conflict and suspicion. "Jake in Progress," 7 and 7:30 p.m., ABC. Tonight's first episode has Jake's boss (Wendie Malick) with a scheme; he should throw her a surprise party. The second, which has some funny moments, has Jake going on a "boys' night out" with Adrian and Patrick. They end up at the opening of a club owned by a tiny basketball star, played by Kevin Hart. "Joey," 7 p.m., NBC. At the premiere of his TV show "Deep Powder," Joey only has one guest ticket. He decides to have Gina, Alex and Michael compete to win it. "Will & Grace," 7:30 p.m., NBC. In a rerun of a Valentine's-time episode, Grace has been mocking the sentiments of greeting cards; now she has a date with a handsome hunk (Ed Burns) who writes them. Also guest-starring are Chita Rivera and Michele Lee (as a lesbian couple). Jeff Goldblum returns as Karen's nemesis. "The Apprentice," 8 p.m., NBC. The competitors must come up with high-tech clothing lines. "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. When a woman is murdered and mutilated, the investigation leads to transgender issues. "Without a Trace," 9 p.m., CBS. This revisits the identical twins, played by Tony Goldwyn. Earlier, one was convicted. Now there's been a murder that makes officials wonder if they arrested the wrong twin. "ER," 9 p.m., NBC. This rerun has Carter trying to lead an overworked unit on the Fourth of July.
