Takara leads field at Amatour qualifying

Neal Takara led 36 golfers who earned exempt status for the Amatour Hawai'i, which begins with The Grind at the Hawai'i Prince Golf Club on April 30.

Takara shot a 4-over 76 in windy conditions to finish at 153 at the Makaha Resort Qualifier on March 27.

First-day leader Chris Souza finished two strokes back after an 80.

Amatour Hawai'i consists of six tournaments, ending with tour championship, Nov. 12 to 13, at Honolulu Country Club.

Phengsavath joins Ko Olina as assistant pro

Joe Phengsavath recently joined the Ko Olina Golf Club team as an assistant golf professional.

Phengsavath, a native of Laos, Thailand, won the Waikoloa Open and Aloha Section Pro/Pro Championship last year, and qualified to play in the 2003 Sony Open.

He recently played on the Asian PGA Tour.



NOTES

Art Rego and Lloyd Yamamoto opened the pro shop concession at the West Loch Golf Course on March 29. The West Loch Golf Shop is open 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Floating Driving Range will be opening on April 15.

A Demo Day for Ping Golf scheduled for this month at Ko Olina has been moved to June 11.
