UH-Hilo sweeps softball doubleheader

Meghan Jost had six hits, including two home runs, as Hawai'i-Hilo swept Western New Mexico, 6-3 and 6-1, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader at Silver City, N.M.

Jost batted 3 for 4, including a solo homer, and Natalie Fujimoto also hit a solo shot to lead Hilo in the opener. Leo Sing Chow hit a solo homer and pitched a five-hitter for the Vulcans.

Jost batted 3 for 4, including a two-run homer, and Sarah Steele pitched a six-hitter to boost the Vulcans (26-6, 11-1 PacWest) over the Mustangs (17-17, 3-6 PacWest) in the second game.



Chaminade splits with Montana State-Billings

Tara Hiramatsu hit a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh as Chaminade rallied past Montana State-Billings, 4-2, yesterday to salvage a split of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at Billings, Mont.

Loihi McKeague and reliever Donnell Wittekind teamed on a six-hitter with Wittekind working two shutout innings as the Silverswords (10-29, 3-9 PacWest) finally beat Joey Ehnes of the Yellowjackets (23-11, 6-4 PacWest).

Ehnes, who shut out Chaminade twice on Tuesday, pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as Billings won yesterday's opener, 10-0.



BASEBALL

Biola's big seventh beats Hawai'i Pacific

Kris Cook's three-run homer sparked a four-run seventh inning that lifted Biola over Hawai'i Pacific, 6-5, yesterday in a non-conference game at La Mirada, Calif.

Justin Long and Chris Weems each had three hits for Biola (23-7-1).

Jherell Miller hit a solo homer and Jay Baptista an RBI double and each had two RBIs for HPU (20-15).
