Suspect sought in 2001 robbery

Advertiser Staff

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a 21-year-old man wanted in connection with the December 2001 shotgun holdup of the Windward Community Federal Credit Union.

Wayne K. Miller was charged with bank robbery in March and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest.

Miller is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police said. He is 5 feet 11, 230 pounds, with a muscular build, brown hair and eyes, and a tattoo on the back and side of his neck.

Miller is accused of being one of three masked men who burst into the Kailua credit union branch on Dec. 21, 2001. The three waved shotguns at employees and ordered everyone to lie on the floor.

Two of the robbers jumped over the counter and grabbed money from two teller drawers, while the other man, identified as Miller, stood at the door as a lookout. The three got into a stolen 1996 white van and drove about 100 yards before getting into a blue pickup truck and fleeing.

The three then went to Miller's 'Ewa Beach home where they divided the money, according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court. Miller is accused of being one of the masterminds of the holdup, as well as stealing the van and driving it to the credit union.

Miller was last seen in Waimanalo, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Bert Soria at 529-3357, or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellular phone.
