When Kamehameha Schools senior right fielder Nick Freitas arrived at the Jim Morris Winter Camp in Coral Gables, Fla., in December, none of the coaches there knew who he was.
By the end of the four-day camp, Freitas had a partial scholarship offer from the University of Miami one of college baseball's most prominent programs.

He gave the Hurricanes a verbal commitment and can sign his letter of intent on Wednesday.
"They liked my arm, and in the 60-yard dash I had the fastest time in the camp," said Freitas, who was an Advertiser All-State first-team selection the past two seasons. "They asked me where I was from."
Miami has won four College World Series titles, including two of the past six. The last Hawai'i player to sign with Miami was Waiakea's Onan Masaoka in 1995. Masaoka ended up signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers after being drafted that June.
