UH-Hilo softball drops pair to Billings

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo dropped a pair of Pacific West Conference softball games to host Montana State-Billings yesterday.
The scores were 7-5 and 11-6.
In the opener, Billings' Joey Ehnes hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and Layne Pavey added a two-run shot in the sixth.
Hilo's Leo Sing Chow and Natalie Fujimoto each had two hits.
In the second game, Ehnes, Theresa Campbell and Christy Wankel each drove in two runs as Billings (25-11 and 8-4) rallied from an early five-run deficit.
Haunan Haasenritter hit two homers and drove in five runs for Hilo (28-8 and 13-3).
BASEBALL
Hawai'i-Hilo loses to Sacramento State, 4-1
The University of Hawai'i-Hilo baseball team finished its California road trip yesterday with a 4-1 loss to host Sacramento State.
Sacramento State's Jim Strombach, a Moanalua High alum, batted 2 for 4 with a run.
The Vulcans scored in the fifth inning when Sean Tamura doubled in Gary Ahu.
Sacramento State improved to 12-20-1; Hilo fell to 3-33.
GOLF
Castillo is director of golf at Princeville
Veteran Kaua'i golf professional Mike Castillo has been named Princeville's new director of golf.
Castillo will be responsible for its 27-hole Makai Course and 18-hole Prince Course.
"To become associated with such a great golf facility as Princeville is a wonderful professional opportunity for me," said Castillo in a news release.
The Prince is ranked as the No. 1 golf course in Hawai'i by several golf publications.
Castillo was born on O'ahu and made his mark on the Hawai'i golf scene as the winner of the All Hawai'i Junior Golf Championship in 1980. He came to Kaua'i in 1993 from Mauna Kea Beach Golf Resort on the Big Island.
He has been director of the Aloha Section of the PGA of America since 1998. He was elected president of the Aloha Section in 2000.
