Lingle names bankers to UH Board of Regents

Associated Press

Gov. Linda Lingle has named two bankers to fill vacancies on the University of Hawai'i Board of Regents.

Ronald Migita, chairman of the board at Central Pacific Bank, will fill a vacancy created by the resignation last year of Duane Kurisu, Lingle spokesman Russell Pang said.

Kurisu's term expires June 30, so if confirmed by the Senate, Migita would serve out the remaining two months. Lingle intends to appoint Migita, who also former president and chief executive of City Bank parent CB Bancshares Inc., to a four-year term after that, Pang said.

Allen Landon, who succeeded Mike O'Neill last year as Bank of Hawaii's chairman and CEO, will replace current board Chairwoman Patricia Lee, whose four-year term expires June 30, Pang said.

"The governor asked her to stay on, but she declined," Pang said.

If confirmed by the Senate, Landon's appointment would be effective July 1, Pang said.

Lingle will have one more seat to fill on the 12-member board when student regent Trent Kakuda's two year term expires June 30, Pang said.
