Ted Liu named to U.S. Commerce panel

U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez named Ted Liu to the Secretarial Advisory Committee that will provide advice and recommendations on the implementation of a new federal grant program.

Liu, the director of the Hawai'i Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism, is one of 17 members on the committee.

President Bush has proposed restructuring 18 federal economic and community development programs in a new $3.71 billion unified grant-making program, called Strengthening America's Communities Initiative.



O'ahu gas prices set another record

The average price for regular gasoline on O'ahu rose to a record $2.428, according to today's AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Local prices have been rising on an almost daily basis amid a recent spike in global crude oil costs. The rising prices helped push the statewide average up slightly to $2.515 a gallon, also a new high.

In Wailuku, Maui, regular gas averaged $2.739 a gallon. In Hilo on the Big Island, it averaged $2.562 a gallon.
