Salsa y merengue? Mambo y cha-cha? Alma Latina Productions' The Salsa After Dark dance party has all but owned Thursday nights at the

Rumours night club since 2001. And it's still the best-attended Latin dance night in town. So congratulate promoter Nancy Ortiz tonight as she celebrates the weekly's fourth birthday with salsa dance floor masters DJs Ray Cruz and Rod Moreno and live music from Son Caribe.

Get complimentary dance lessons, pupu, cake and champagne, too. From 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., Ala Moana Hotel, ground floor. More information at 955-4811 or 285-0072.

Eating out? Behave yourself, calorie-wise

Dietitians and parents offer tips for making the most of eating out:
  • Don't offer food as a reward.
  • Eat high-fat foods and sauces sparingly. Consider sharing orders of french fries.
  • Avoid sodas. Choose water or low-fat milk.
  • Consider removing the bread from a sandwich; choose whole wheat or a wrap.
  • Avoid "double" anything (double ice cream dips, double burgers).
  • Don't be shy about requesting substitutions. Order a side of veggies, or a small salad rather than fries.
  • Watch the portion size.
  • Parents should set examples by making healthful menu choices.

FINAL WORD

Rapper Fat Joe on why he performs:

"It's not about the money for me. It's not about the fame for me. It's about my peers respecting my contributions to hip-hop, 30 years from now, looking back at hip-hop and saying, 'You know what? This dude was really amazing.' "
