Outside hitter signs with 'Bows

Advertiser Staff

Jamie Houston, a 6-foot high school volleyball player from Huntsville, Ala., has signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Hawai'i.

Houston helped Huntsville High School win its third consecutive class 5A (large schools) title last season.

"She has the same kind of potential as (Kim) Willoughby," UH coach Dave Shoji said. "But to compare her (to Willoughby) at this point would be unfair. Willoughby was polished coming out of high school."

Shoji said Houston can play more than one position, but is projected to be an outside hitter for the Rainbow Wahine.

"She could be special," Shoji said.

Yesterday was the first day high school athletes could sign college letters of intent.

Houston was named Super All-Metro volleyball Player of the Year by Alabama's Huntsville Times and was named to Volleyball Magazine's Fab 50 list of top high school seniors.
