ESPN Challenge set for Waikoloa

Hawai'i qualifiers for ESPN's National Golf Challenge are scheduled for May 7 and 14 at the Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Big Island.
The event is an amateur two-person better-ball tournament with gross and net divisions. Hawai'i winners advance to regional qualifiers. The finals are Nov. 14 and 15 in Las Vegas, and will be televised on ESPN2.
The first Hawai'i qualifier is at the Waikoloa Kings' Course. The second is at the Waikoloa Beach Course.
Entry fee is $125. Deadlines are May 5 for the first tournament and May 12 for the second tournament.

Willie K. Charity Tournament on Maui
The second annual Willie K. Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled for April 23 at Ka'anapali North Golf Course.
The event is a fund-raiser for Maui Memorial Medical Center's Oncology Department.
The tournament features 36 four-person teams playing a scramble format. Team entries are sold out. Willie K. and other entertainers and celebrities are scheduled to appear at a post-tournament dinner and concert.
Last year, the tournament raised more than $20,000, according to organizers of the event. The monies were used for patient-related items for the medical center's oncology unit and for improvements to rooms used for hospice care.
Maui Diagnostic Imaging became the title sponsor of the tournament.
Aloha Section PGA fund-raiser on June 10
The 29th PGA Classic, a fund-raiser for the Aloha Section PGA, is June 10 at the Turtle Bay Resort's Palmer and Fazio courses.
The tournament has an 11 a.m. shotgun start.
The format is a six-person (one pro, five amateur partners) "shamble" in which the group is divided into two three-person teams after a drive is selected.

Former Sandalwood reopens back nine
The back-nine renovation of the Kahili Course, formerly known as Sandalwood, has been completed and all 18 holes are now open for play.
Rates through May are $40 for kama'aina, $80 for visitors and $70 for resort-program guests.
The renovation of the front nine will begin June 1. Play will still be 18 holes with two sets of tees on the back-nine holes.
