Three-time defending champion Lee opens with a 76

Professional Norman-Ganin Asao fired a 2-under-par 68 yesterday to take a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the 47th Mid-Pacific Open at the Mid-Pacific Country Club in Lanikai.
Pros Kevin Carll and Beau Yokomoto are at 70, while pros Kevin Hayashi and Stan Souza opened with 71s.
Amateurs Chris Souza and Phillip Anamizu shot even-par 72s, while eight-time Mid-Pacific Open champion Lance Suzuki is tied with Darren Summers, John Lynch and Champions Tour player Dave Eichelberger at 73.
Three-time defending champion Regan Lee opened with a 4-over 76.
Lee is trying to become the 10th golfer, and the fifth man, to win a Hawai'i tournament four consecutive years.
Tee-off for today's second round begins at 6:30 a.m. The field in all flights will be cut after today's round.
Roosevelt's Fuller signs with Nebraska
Fuller, a shortstop, has batted over .430 the past two seasons and has been regarded as one of the top fielding shortstops in the state.
According to her mother, Gail, Fuller also received recruiting interest from Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.
Nebraska had a 25-14 record entering yesterday's game at Creighton.
Hegedus, Kalabic top BYUH athletes
Brigham Young University-Hawai'i held its annual athletic awards banquet Tuesday night to honor its athletes.
Women's tennis player Adrienn Hegedus and men's water polo player Vanja Kalabic were honored as the Seasider athletes of the year.
Hegedus is a four-time first-team All-American in singles and doubles. She compiled a record of 96-1 in singles and
88-5 in doubles. Under Hegedus, the Seasiders women's tennis team won 120 dual matches and lost none.
Kalabic was a four-time first-team All-American and honored as this year's NCAA II National Player of the Year. Kalabic holds several BYU-Hawai'i team records.

UH women defeat UC Santa Barbara, 8-4
The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine water polo team defeated
10th-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 8-4, yesterday in California.
Anna Sieprath had three goals, and Beth Novick added two for Hawai'i (13-6, 8-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation).
The Gauchos fell to 13-10 and 4-6 in the MPSF.

Roosevelt High School senior Kimberly Fuller has signed a national letter of intent to play softball for the University of Nebraska next season.
