Man injured in drive-by shooting

Police opened an attempted murder investigation after a 46-year-old man was found early this morning on Piliwai Street in Kalihi Valley bleeding from three bullet wounds.

The man told police he was "hanging around" a neighborhood park when one or two compact cars drove up and opened fire. Police said the man was shot twice in the back and once in the buttocks and was listed in serious condition upon his arrival at The Queen's Medical Center.

Police said the shooting victim managed to walk about halfway down Piliwai Street before he was found by officers responding to a report of gunshots heard in the area.



Toddler hurt in pickup accident

An 11-month-old Hau'ula boy was seriously injured this morning when his father bumped the boy with a pickup truck as he backed the truck out of the driveway, police said.

The boy was reported in fair condition at Kahuku General Hospital, where he was taken for treatment of a broken leg following the 6:56 a.m. incident.



Woman arrested in stabbing

A 26-year-old Waikiki woman was arrested this morning after she allegedly tried to stab her husband.

The husband, also 26, told police he was arguing with his wife at the couple's apartment about 11:45 p.m. Sunday went she went to the kitchen, returned with a 10-inch knife and began to swing it at him.

Police said the husband was trying to restrain his wife when he received a minor cut to his right index finger. They said the husband was able to take the knife away and call police who arrested the woman for suspicion of second-degree assault.



Death linked to alcohol, painkiller

Police believe an 18-year-old Kane'ohe Marine probably died Saturday morning from complications associated with mixing alcohol with the powerful pain medication OxyContin.

Police said the man was discovered lying lifeless on his bed about 10 a.m. at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i.



Elderly woman's death investigated

Police are investigating the death of an 87-year-old Honolulu woman who died at home and whose family took the body to a mortuary before the woman was officially pronounced dead.

The mortuary called the city Department of the Medical Examiner which, in turn, called police.

The woman's body was taken to the city morgue, where medical examiner investigators found indications of possible elderly neglect and notified police.
