San Diego sophomore second baseman Keoni Ruth (Kamehameha '03 of 'Aiea) hit the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 16th inning in a 7-6 win Saturday against Pepperdine.
Ruth finished the three-game series 5 for 17, with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
Hawai'i players at San Francisco played integral roles in a three-game sweep against Saint Mary's College last weekend. Junior Travis McGaughy (Iolani '01) drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to force home senior second baseman Royce Fukuroku (Maui '01) with the game-winning run in an 8-7 victory Friday.
Fukuroku, who finished the day 2 for 4, reached base by hitting a one-out single.
In the ninth inning, pinch runner McGaughy tied the game after a teammate singled to left field.
Junior Patrick McGuigan (Mid-Pacific '02) picked up the win in relief to improve to 3-1.
Fukuroku batted 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and three runs in a 10-6 win Saturday.
In a 7-2 win Sunday, San Francisco senior Cy Donald (Mililani '01) sparked a six-run eighth inning with the Dons down 2-1. Donald led off the inning with a pinch-hit single, and later scored when Fukuroku was hit by a pitch to drive in the tying run. Fukuroku later scored the third run of the inning.
Brigham Young junior designated hitter Apana Nakayama (Moloka'i '00 of Kaunakakai) drove in the tying and winning runs in the ninth inning with his third double of the game in a 13-12 win over San Diego State. The game was played in front of 2,369, the seventh-largest crowd in the four-plus-year history of Larry H. Miller Field.
Nakayama went 4 for 6 with a run.
"The crowd was awesome," Nakayama said on the school's Web site. "I just went to the plate looking for something to drive."
