UH women golfers in sixth

The University of Hawai'i women's golf team shot a 303 yesterday and moved up a spot to sixth place with a 633 after the second round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship at Kuna, Idaho.

San Jose State leads with a 595 at Falcon Crest Golf Course.

UH's Sara Odelius and Xyra Suyetsugu shot 74s and are in a four-way tie for 12th place with 155 totals.



TENNIS

UH will host women's, men's WAC tourneys

The University of Hawai'i will host the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Championships tomorrow through Sunday at the UH tennis complex.

The women's tournament consists of two play-in matches at 9 a.m. tomorrow — No. 9 San Jose State vs. No. 8 Louisiana Tech and No. 10 Nevada vs. Texas-El Paso.

The winners will play again at 3 p.m. with No. 1 Rice playing the SJSU-Louisiana Tech winner and No. 2 Fresno State facing the Nevada-UTEP winner.

At noon, No. 6 Hawai'i will play No. 3 SMU and No. 5 Boise State faces No. 4 Tulsa.

Semifinal matches will be Friday at 3 p.m., and the final will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The men's tournament starts Friday with No. 5 Fresno State playing No. 4 Tulsa (9 a.m.), No. 7 Nevada facing No. 2 Rice (9 a.m.) and No. 6 Hawai'i meeting No. 3 SMU (noon).

Top seed Boise State will receive a first-round bye.

The semifinals will be Saturday at 1 p.m., and the finals at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Tournament packages are $12 adults; $5 students.
