ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Take back the night at UH with march and rally tonight

Advertiser Staff and News Services

It's time to take a serious look at campus safety with the Take Back the Night March and Rally at 6:30 tonight.

The rally deals with rape issues on and around the University of Hawai'i's main campus.

The march begins at the UH-Manoa Campus Center at 7:15 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. at the Hale Aloha dorms' courtyard — where speakers, bands, prizes and food will celebrate non- violence.

Baby needs some downtime to just hang loose

Toy stores are crammed with toys to stimulate and build babies' brains. But it's also important to let a baby do nothing and just chill out.

BabyTalk magazine says that just about anything that allows babies to slow down and reflect — at their own pace — qualifies as downtime. For example:

  • Sitting in a high chair and watching you make dinner.
  • Lying in the crib and babbling.
  • Looking at a picture book (alone).
  • Riding in a front carrier while you go about your routine.
  • Staring into space.

FINAL WORD

Actress Penelope Cruz in the New York Post on riding a camel in "Sahara":

"I never thought I could go through with it. My first day I was terrified, I was so high up. I was told I had to speed up opposite a train! But the 'camel people' on the set helped, and then I couldn't stop riding. It's the best adrenaline trip."
