Engineering firm fined for contributions

Imata & Associates Inc. has agreed to a $55,000 fine for improper financial contributions to several political campaigns between 1996 and 2002, according to the state Campaign Spending Commission.

The commission approved an agreement yesterday over false name and excess contributions by the civil engineering firm to the campaigns of Arnold Morgado, Ben Cayetano, Jeremy Harris, Kimo Apana and Fred Holshuh.

The commission also approved an agreement with INK Architects and three of its associates for false-name contributions. According to the commission, Dennis Nakamoto agreed to pay a $7,000 fine; Maurice Kondo agreed to a $3,000 fine; and Dennis Irie agreed to a $1,000 fine.

The improper donations were made to the campaigns of Morgado, Cayetano and Harris from 1996 to 2002.
