A 19-year-old 'Aiea man was arrested yesterday after officials at 'Aiea High School called police to report an 11th-grade student at the school may have been abducted by her boyfriend or former boyfriend just before 8 a.m.

Police conferred on Moanalua Loop after yesterday's arrest. In 2003, the mother of a then-15-year-old student at 'Aiea High obtained a court order against the man arrested yesterday, court records show.

The man was arrested later that morning on suspicion of kidnapping and violating a court protective order.

'Aiea High School principal Michael Tokioka said he learned of the incident when students reported that the girl had left campus with an acquaintance.

"They weren't sure (if she was in danger), security wasn't sure, so we sort of just did the procedures we would normally follow," he said. Those procedures included contacting police and the girl's parents, but did not include locking down the school or informing the student body of the incident.

Police issued a bulletin for a 2003 Ford cargo van registered to the father of the suspect, and patrol officers spotted it at about 10 a.m. near the intersection of Moanalua Loop and Kaonohi Street near a Pearlridge restaurant.

Police arrested the driver, who told them he already had dropped the girl off unharmed at her parents' home.

Tokioka said the girl was back at school at about 10 a.m.

Court records show that in 2003, the mother of a then-15-year-old student at 'Aiea High School asked for and was granted a temporary restraining order to keep the suspect in yesterday's incident away from her daughter.

The mother said she reluctantly agreed to allow her daughter to date the youth, but that he had physically abused her daughter and become obsessive to the point where he would climb walls around her family's home and peer in to see whether her daughter was there.

The restraining order was granted in October 2003, was renewed one or more times and remains in effect until March 2006, court records show.
