The University of Hawai'i Board of Regents yesterday voted to present Hall of Fame baseball manager Tommy Lasorda with an honorary doctor of letters degree next month on the pitcher's mound at Les Murakami Stadium.
"I'm sure he'll be an inspiration for our baseball team and athletes," Patricia Lee, board chair, said.
Lasorda, who inspired the U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal in 2000 at Sydney and led the Los Angeles Dodgers to two World Series titles, delivered Manoa's commencement address in December.
The vote was unanimous with two members voting in favor with reservations.
The exact date has yet to be confirmed, but the Rainbows close their home season May 12-14 against Fresno State.
