BUSINESS BRIEFS
Oceanic cable customers to get refund

Advertiser Staff

Oceanic Time Warner Cable will refund O'ahu cable subscribers $1.92 each on a future cable bill for over-collections during a seven-year period between 1995-2002. Overall, the company owes subscribers $483,759 in over-collected franchise fees, according to an announcement today by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

That equates to about 27 cents per year in over charges for each customer affected.

The refunds should be completed by June 2. Similar refunds for Neighbor Island cable subscribers are planned.

EPA fines Honolulu pet supply company

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it has fined the Honolulu firm Pang & Son $10,000 for allegedly selling and distributing unregistered and misbranded pet products.

The EPA and state of Hawaii inspectors found that Pang & Son handled unregistered versions of Frontline and Advantage, popular flea and tick control products used on dogs and cats.

The counterfeit pesticides appear to have been unlawfully imported and packaged in retail cartons designed to look similar to legitimately registered products, the EPA said in a press release. Last year the EPA ordered 56 companies in seven states, including Hawaii, to stop selling unregistered pet products.
