Children of military parents on deployment may have something to smile about this summer: Operation Purple Camp Aloha.
In its second year, Operation Purple Camp Aloha allows campers to visit a different branch of service and spend time exploring Hawai'i's culture.
Organizers aim to develop a comprehensive activity program plan that incorporates use of on-base and off-base facilities and attractions, team building activities, self-reliance and coping skills, and traditional recreation activities.
The Kalaeloa camp site offers teens a one-acre area for tent camping with an adjacent bathhouse. The Ford Island site, for children ages 6 to 12, offers an indoor playground experience and crafts.
Space is limited; call 421-1556 before Saturday.

The free nationwide summer camp program, presented by the National Military Family Association and Sears, helps children of people from all branches of the armed forces deal with deployment-related issues; "purple" is a military term representing the inclusion of all branches.
