SONG AND DANCE: "Legends of Hawaiian Music II," which will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. May 14 at Enchanted Lake Elementary School in Kailua, sounds like a winner. The performing roster includes Eddie Kamae & the Sons of Hawai'i, Marlene Sai, Marcella Kalua, Kealoha Kalama, Auntie Momi Kahawaiola'a, Gary Aiko, Auntie Nickie Hines, Nancy Gustafsson, Vic Lanakila Rittenband, Tony Bee & the Bee Sisters and Kawika Chung, with Hauoli Akaka and Kimo Keawe emceeing. The Keiki Palaka Band opens up the show. The event, a dinner-and-show affair, is only $6, which includes a Hawaiian plate (soft drinks extra), but only 750 tickets will be available. The aforementioned Kamae & the Sons of Hawai'i will provide music at the 78th anniversary celebration (it's invitational) of the Honolulu Academy of Arts' grand opening and Hawaiian Day, from 5:30 p.m. May 6 at the Doris Duke Theatre. Excerpts from the film "Keepers of the Flame" will be shown; the film honors the legacy of Mary Kawena Pukui, 'Iolani Luahine and Edith Kanaka'ole. ...

Marcelo Pacleb, the driving force behind 24/7 Danceforce, will be heading for Germany for the inaugural cruise of a Norwegian Cruise Lines ship (which will sashay among the Neighbor Islands this summer, with Pacleb choreographing on-board contemporary entertainment), but he'll share his artistry (and performers) in a "Once Upon A ... Dance Concert" at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ronald E. Bright Theatre at Castle High School. Dora Teraoka, who runs the dance program at Castle, also will showcase student dancers, with works by a host of choreographers, some in the hip-hop genre, others tweaking fairytale characters. Tickets are $12 ($10 if purchased by Thursday). Call 235-5141. ...

NAMES 'N' FACES: John Kolivas, a member of the Honolulu Jazz Quartet, has joined the Betty Loo Taylor Trio at the Kahala Mandarin's Veranda lounge, replacing bassist Steve Jones. He recalls his mom, Dolly Lott, taking him to hear singer Jimmy Borges and pianist Taylor at the old Keone's on Lewers Street 30 years ago, when he was 14, and admits it's "a privilege working with Betty on a regular basis." ...

Though Duane "Dog" Chapman clearly is the star of A&E's "Dog the Bounty Hunter" reality show, his son Leland Chapman is emerging as a heartthrob, receiving tons of fan letters from females from the United States and abroad. And Dog's Da Kine Bail Bonds on Queen Emma Street and his home in Kahala are becoming hot stops for tour buses, according to Beth Smith, Dog's wife. ...

Jimmy Buffett waved aloha and expressed mahalo to fans as his caravan left the Waikiki Shell parking lot after his sold-out concert. And if a Margaritaville eatery opens here, bet on Tom Moffatt to be "in" on the deal. ...

RANDOM NOTES: Paul Ogata, the local deejay, headlines the "Take Out Comedy Tour" when it pauses in Honolulu at 7:30 p.m. May 27 at the Pipeline Cafe. When media folks, VIPs and volunteers gather at Compadres in Ward Centre today for The Advertiser's Kids Day kick-off brunch, the tradition of having live entertainment will continue. Since the restaurant has a wooden floor, cast members from "Lord of the Dance," which opens Friday at nearby Blaisdell Concert Hall, agreed to perform for the gathering. A pair of opening-night tickets will be given away. ...

Alan Arita, who does close-up magic at Tony Roma's Kahala Sundays, recently entertained state Sen. Sam Slom and his family. "I'm creating history," Slom quipped. "This is the only time you'll get money from a politician." Arita proceeded to change the tip to $1,000. Now, that's sleight-of-hand that everyone could appreciate. ...
