A 15-year-old student at a state-run alternative education school in Pearl City was arrested yesterday on suspicion of second-degree assault after an altercation with a teacher at the school.

The teacher, 33, said he was reprimanding the student at about 11:15 a.m. for not complying with school rules regarding smoking on campus when she became agitated and hit him on the right forearm and shins with a stick.

The attack left him with cuts and scratches on his arms and pain to his shins, the teacher said.

The student was arrested and later released without charges pending further investigation.
