A 28-year-old Kalihi man was arrested yesterday in connection with the April 18 shooting of a 46-year-old man in Kalihi Valley.
The man was booked on one count of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and another firearms offense. He was being held last night in a police cell block pending charges.
On April 18, the 46-year-old man was found bleeding from three bullet wounds on Piliwai Street in Kalihi Valley. The man told police he was hanging out at a park at the end of Piliwai Street when a car drove up and someone opened fire.
The man told police he was shot twice in the back and once in the buttocks. He said he was able to walk about halfway down Piliwai Street before he was found by officers responding to a report of gunshots heard in the area.
The injured man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
The car, which the wounded man said had two other men inside, drove off.
Members of the Kalihi substation Crime Reduction Unit investigated the shooting and yesterday located the primary suspect at a fast-food restaurant at Gulick Avenue and North School Street and arrested him. Police said the man suffered minor facial injuries during the arrest.
Police said the man was booked on a second attempted-murder charge because a 27-year-old male friend of the wounded man said someone also shot at him on April 18. That man was not injured, police said.
The two other men in the car have been identified by police, but they are being treated as witnesses at this time, police said.
