POLICE BEAT
Shoplifter accused of robbery

Advertiser Staff

Police said a shoplifting incident turned into a robbery at the Waikele shopping center yesterday afternoon.

Security officers who work at one of the Waikele stores stopped a 19-year-old man after they allegedly saw the man walk out of the store without paying for merchandise in his possession, police said.

They said the man became combative while being detained and then assaulted one of the security officers.

Patrol officers arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree robbery because of the force used in the altercation.

Teen arrested after punch

A 17-year-old girl was arrested yesterday after she allegedly punched a 14-year-old girl in the face while the two were standing along Kalaniana'ole Highway in Waimanalo.

Police said the two girls had been arguing before the younger girl was struck about 4:45 p.m.

The older girl was arrested on suspicion of second degree assault and was later released without charges.
