Gas prices hit record around state

Gasoline prices around the state hit new highs, according to today's AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The average price for regular gasoline in Honolulu rose to a record $2.444 a gallon. In Wailuku, Maui, regular gas was $2.789 a gallon and in Hilo on the Big Island, it was $2.629 a gallon — both were record highs.

The statewide average was $2.528 a gallon, which was below a record $2.540 hit last Friday.



PUC schedules hearings on gas cap law

The Public Utilities Commission next week will begin a series of public hearings around the state on a gasoline price cap law scheduled to take effect Sept. 1. Here are the dates and locations of those hearings:

  • 6 p.m., Monday at the Aiea High School Cafeteria, 98-1276 Ulune St., Aiea, O'ahu.
  • 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at the Kaua'i High School Library, 3577 Lala Road, Lihue, Kaua'i.
  • 6 p.m., Wednesday at the Hilo High School Cafeteria, 556 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, Hawai'i.
  • 6 p.m., Thursday at the Kealakehe Intermediate School Cafeteria, 74-5062 Onipa'a St., Kona, Hawai'i.
  • 6 p.m., May 9, at the Hana High School Cafeteria, 4111 Hana Highway, Hana, Maui.
  • 6:30 p.m., May 10 at the Maui Waena Intermediate School Cafeteria, 795 Onehee St., Kahului, Maui.
  • 6 p.m., May 11, at the Mitchell Pauole Center Conference Room, 90 Ainoa St., Kaunakakai, Moloka'i.
