EPA faults Pepsi bottling plants

Pepsi Bottling Group Inc. said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency found that the company violated the Clean Water Act at four bottling plants, including one in Hawai'i.

The company received notice of the violations "as a result of certain events related to waste water discharge and storm water run-off," according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Hawai'i plant is in 'Aiea. The EPA last month said the 'Aiea plant did not have the proper permit to discharge storm water that flows into Halawa Stream and then into Pearl Harbor's East Loch.



Hawaiian third in 'load factor'

Hawaiian Airlines yesterday reported an 86.1 percent load factor for March, which represented a 2.6 percentage point increase over the previous year.

Hawaiian finished third nationally in load factor behind JetBlue, 90.0 percent, and Spirit, 86.5 percent. The industry average was 80.2 percent. Hawaiian also improved its revenue passenger miles by 3.7 percent
