Kipapa principal to be honored

Kipapa Elementary School Principal Bruce Naguwa has been named the state's National Distinguished Principal by the Hawai'i Elementary and Middle School Administrators Association.

He will be honored by the National Association of Elementary School Principals in Washington, D.C., in October along with public elementary school principals from each state, and a handful of principals from middle schools, private schools and overseas schools.

Naguwa was selected from district nominees including Lisa DeLong, Kahuku High and Intermediate School; Randall Miura, Leihoku Elementary School; Fred Rose, Kilauea School, Kaua'i; Alvin Shima, Kihei Elementary School, Maui; Christina Small, Liholiho Elementary School; and Nancy Soderberg, Konawaena Middle School, Big Island.



Comic books free at libraries

Four public libraries will give away comic books on May 7 to celebrate Free Comic Book Day.

Visitors to Kapolei, Liliha, McCully-Mo'ili'ili and Waikiki-Kapahulu just need to present their state library card to receive a special comic book while supplies last.

The comic books feature Batman, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four, Owly, the Simpsons and Star Wars.

Student winners on TV tomorrow

Student winners of the Second Annual Youth Xchange video competition will be featured in a live call-in show at noon tomorrow on Channel 56.

Kirk Matthews of KHON news and Stephanie Castillo, a local filmmaker, will talk with the winners about their productions and techniques.

Schools can participate in the live show by calling in questions.

Participating students include Alice Thieu, of Sacred Hearts Academy; Kolu Ryan, of Wai'anae High School; Andrew Kerekes, of Mililani High School; Gerald Rojo and Marisa Kiethanom, of Moanalua High School; William Paclib, of McKinley High; and Ryan Jara, of Kaimuki High School.
